Indonesian Coffee Beans
It was during the late 1800s, when the first successful coffee plantation was started on the island colony of Java in Indonesia. Indonesia was at one time known to be one of the leading producers of Arabica beans. However, after several of Indonesia’s coffee plantations were destroyed, the country witnessed an increased production of Robusta beans. While the top grade Arabica beans continue to be produced on the islands of Java, Sulawesi, Sumatra & Flores, Indonesia today is recognized as world’s largest producer of Robusta Coffee Beans.
Notable Indonesia Coffee Beans
| Java |
 |
| Java coffee is an Indonesia grown coffee, produced on the island of Java & hence the coffee nickname “Java”. Java coffee plantation was initiated on the island by the Dutch in the 17th century & has been exported worldwide ever since. Java coffee is typically wet processed & possesses slight spicy smokiness that distinguishes it from the coffees from Sumatra & Sulawesi. Famous Java coffee estates include, Blawan & Jampit. |

| Sumatra |
 |
| Unlike Java coffee, the Sumatra coffee is quite rich. It is in fact considered among some of the smoothest, heaviest & complex coffees of the world. While Sumatra coffees are most often dry-processed, they are at times semi-washed. Ardent coffee enthusiasts interested in buying Sumatran coffee prefer to go in for aged Sumatran green coffee beans since these are known to enrich the spicy & earthy notes of Sumatran coffee. |

| Sulawesi |
 |
| The Sulawesi coffee is considered as an improvement on the Sumatran coffee type. Sulawesi coffee has a creamy texture with higher acidity & smooth buttery qualities. Most of the top quality Sulawesi coffee is sourced from the Toraja region of Indonesia. Also known as the Celebes Kalossi Coffee, this is a rare grown coffee type. Many coffee connoisseurs consider Sulawesi coffee as just the lighter version of Sumatra Mandheling Coffee. |
