Special and First Flushes - A Special Choice. |
The kind of leaves plucked determines in a big way the flavor of the tea. It is considered that a younger leaf adds more flavor than an older leaf.
A term commonly associated with the plucking of the new leaves or new leaf buds is “Flush”. One can witness a flush of buds, especially in the Northern tea growing regions of India, where the tea growing period is comparatively much shorter. Since, the first flush is by far the first tea of the year, it is no surprise that this tea is extremely expensive and available only in limited quantity.
Although the first flush teas are always better than the later flush teas, the first flush has its own limitations. It is always advisable to use this tea within a period of 8-12 months, since it usually does not stay good after that time. |
