Vietnamese Robusta Coffee
Though coffee cultivation in Vietnam was initiated by the French missionaries in mid 1860’s, it was not until 1990’s that Vietnam actually started the production of coffee & became a top producer. In spite of being a late comer, Vietnamese coffee production has rocketed up at a furious pace. However, there has not been enough growth in production so as to match up the increasing growth of the industry, which is a constant cause of worry for the Vietnamese traders. As a result, Vietnamese coffee is not regarded as high as the produce from other coffee producing countries.

The Robusta Coffee, also known as “Coffea canephora” is a species of coffee that originated in western & central sub-saharan Africa. Though mostly grown in Brazil & Africa, in the recent years, Vietnam has come up as a place dealing exclusively with Robusta production thereby surpassing even major producers like Brazil & India. Vietnam today is the single largest exporter of Robusta coffee in the world. Although the Robusta coffee beans are smaller than the Arabica beans, they are comparatively bitter & provide twice the caffeine. These coffee beans are divided into two basic types – the spreading & the upright varieties. |
